Carl Cox voted ‘Top DJ of the past 25 years’

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Mixmag asked its readers to nominate their top five dance tunes, acts and DJs of the past quarter century. You may be surprised by the results…

Carl Cox, techno workhorse and honorary Australian (well, almost), was crowned the top jock ahead of Fatboy Slim, Sasha, Pete Tong and Tiesto. “It’s a big honour to be considered the number one DJ after such a long time,” Cox told the mag. “I am very happy that people still enjoy my music and are still coming out to see me.”

Altogether now, “Lager, lager, lager…” Yes, Underworld’s Born Slippy got the nod for top dance tune, followed by Massive Attack’s seminal heartbreaker Unfinished Sympathy in the second spot. No prizes for guessing the top five dance acts, although some may contest the rankings. It’s Daft Punk who came out as number one, with Prodigy and Chemical Brothers awarded silver and bronze respectively. The pyramid’s power knows no bounds…
